Abstract

Emotional intelligence (EI) is a crucial factor in personal and social functioning, profoundly affecting mental health and overall well-being. This paper examines the significance of EI, its influence on mental health outcomes, and the vital role health education plays in promoting EI development through a mixed-methods research approach. Elevated levels of EI are linked to improved mental health by fostering effective coping mechanisms, emotional regulation, and empathy—key skills that help mitigate stress and lower the incidence of disorders such as depression and anxiety. Health education acts as a foundational platform for cultivating EI by incorporating targeted EI training into educational programs, enhancing educators’ professional skills, and creating nurturing learning environments. Employing both quantitative and qualitative methods, this study offers a holistic perspective on how EI shapes mental health. Despite evidence supporting the positive effects of EI training, gaps remain, including the need for longitudinal research, studies involving diverse populations, and deeper insights into the underlying processes. Future investigations should address these gaps by exploring innovative technologies and interdisciplinary frameworks to refine EI training approaches. The paper concludes with recommendations urging educators and health professionals to embed EI training within health education curricula, invest in ongoing professional development, utilise mixed-methods research designs, and adopt culturally sensitive and inclusive practices. Emphasising technology integration and closing research gaps will be essential for advancing EI education and enhancing mental health outcomes. Through these efforts, health education can play a transformative role in nurturing the emotional and psychological well-being of learners.
