The main purpose of the study was to determine the socioeconomic problems facing adult learners in distance education programme in Awka study centre, Abagana. Three research questions guided the study. The population of the study consisted of 7,281 registered learners and a sample size of 480 was drawn from the population using purposive sampling technique. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Questionnaire was the instrument for data collection and the reliability was determined using Cronbach Alpha with an overall reliability of 0.84. Mean statistics was used to analyse the research questions. The findings revealed that the social and economic problems faced by adult learners include: lack of reinforcement from the educators, low technology, isolation, poor communication link, poor funding from the government, high tuition fee, high poverty among others. Some of the strategies include; training learners on the use of ICT to maintain good communication, subsidizing school fees by management, recruitment of qualified facilitators, adequate monitoring and evaluation of the programme among others. Among the recommendations was that; there should be proper funding of the programme by government and management to achieve the objectives, adequate learning materials should be provided to support with online study.
